EFFICIENCY LODGE MURDER FROM DECEMBER 2006

On February 14, 2008, the District Attorney’s Office prosecuted 2 co-defendants in the Efficiency Lodge murder from December 2006.

Joshua Milsap and his brother, Alonzo Moon, of Austell, pled guilty in front of Judge David T. Emerson on Thursday, February 14, 2008 to Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Attempted Armed Robbery, and Burglary. These charges stem from an incident that occurred on December 15, 2006 at the Efficiency Lodge off of Fairburn Road in Douglasville.

Milsap and Moon each received a sentence of 30 years, to serve 15 years in prison for their role in the shooting death of Michael Sims. As a part of the plea agreement, both Milsap and Moon must give truthful testimony against any other co-defendants.

Co-defendants Milsap, Moon, and Eric Broomfield had been informed by Edward Saffo, Sr. that the victim, Michael Sims, kept a large amount of marijuana and cash in his hotel room at the Efficiency Lodge. Mr. Saffo brought Milsap, Moon, and Broomfield to the Efficincy Lodge and pointed out which room the victim was staying in. Mr. Saffo then left the Efficency Lodge and returned home, knowing that the other co-defendants planned to rob the victim.

Milsap, Moon and Broomfield then forced entry into the victim’s hotel room in an attempt to rob him. Mr. Broomfield then allegedly shot the victim in the chest, killing him. All three defendants then fled the scene.

Mr. Edward Saffo pled guilty on January 28, 2008 to Conspirarcy to Commit Armed Robbery and received a sentence of 10 years, to serve 5 of years in prison for his role in the Murder and Armed Robbery of Michael Sims.

Eric Antonio Broomfield is charged with the Murder and Attempted Armed Robbery of Michael Sims and is set for trial in the upcoming months.

Assistant District Attorney, Eddie Barker, is handling the case and stated “This type of crime will not be tolerated in Douglas County.” Assistant District Attorney Barker also recognized the hard work of the Investigators at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in solving and apprehending the defendants in this case.
